Job Summary

Reporting to the Service Supervisor, the Trailer maintains, repairs and overhauls commercial transport devices connected to or moved by a power unit. Maintenance and repair of transport devices may include flat decks, dry freight vans, refrigerated vans, tankers, converters, boosters, pole trailers, jeeps, steering dollies, dump trailers and any other commercial pull type devices. The ideal candidate will follow Commercial Trailer Inspection Guidelines, converse with drivers to troubleshoot equipment problems, reviews completed work orders for accuracy and parts accountability and is available for emergency after hours call outs.

As the chosen candidate you will be eager to learn alignments and framework, as well, you must have excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills and enjoy taking a methodical approach to your work.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

The Trailer Mechanic performs some or all of the following duties:

  • Interpret work orders and technical manuals
  • Keep equipment cleaned, lubricated and maintained
  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions
  • Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, components or systems
  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance and ensure that the work done meets manufacturer’s specifications and legislated requirements
  • Write service reports
  • Other duties as required
Qualifications
  • Min 2nd year apprenticeship in Heavy Duty Mechanics or Journeyman Trailer Mechanic
  • Commercial Trailer Inspection License preferred
  • Experience on trailer repairs required
  • Conscientious and able to attain all pre-set work deadlines
  • Class 3 driver’s license is preferred
  • Must have strong leadership, written and oral communication skills
  • Must exhibit good positive work ethics
